Khalifa x The Arctic University of Norway UiT signing

August 26- 27, 2024

UiT, The Arctic University of Norway, welcomed a delegation from Khalifa University, marking the first formal visit. This visit followed a briefing in April with the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs on UiT's climate and environmental research.

The two institutions discussed potential collaborations in areas such as energy sustainability, AI, and climate research, with a special emphasis on the Arctic and Antarctica. Both the UAE and Norway are committed to transitioning away from oil and gas dependence, with a shared vision for green societal transformation

A key highlight of the visit was the exploration of joint research opportunities, including hydrogen production from renewable energy sources and the future of renewable energy. Moreover, KU’s participation in UiT’s One Ocean expedition (2025-2026), aiming at promoting sustainability and environmental awareness, was discussed.

During their stay, the delegation was introduced to UiT's Arctic Ocean 2050 program, marine ecology research, and the Institute of Geosciences. This visit solidified the growing partnership between the two universities, with both looking forward to future research collaboration.
